  What is the best for the child if father knows TTATT and mother is a devout JW?

  The father would have to be ok with the child eventually learning he has been living a lie all along for option 1 to work. What kind of message does that send to the child?

  Option 2: the odds are on the father's side. 60% of born in JWs leave even if both parents are JWs. The father has aN opportunity to help the child learn to think for himself in either case.

  Personally, it would be more important for both parents to be reasonable and agree on how they will raise the child, otherwise the marriage will suffer badly. This would hurt the child more. Most of us here are proof that life long cult indoctrination can be overcome, though it does leave its scars

  Is JW Baptism the Only Valid Baptism?

  what is the watchtower bible and tract societys view on baptism?

  is it absolutely essential that one be baptized to gain eternal life in gods kingdom?.

  and can they tell you who you can and cant baptize?.

  Yeah to a JW no other baptism is legit. In their defense, though.... They only baptize people who are alive!

  Genital Mutilation - Is anyone watching this?

  uk chanel 4 " the cruel cut".

  in the uk in black and asian communities female genital mutilation(fgm) or destruction of the clitoris and the labia of young girls is practised.

  this horror is common in the uk, it is illegal and has been for 28 years but there has not been one prosecution.. this got me thinking.

  While the degrees may not be the same, the name and purpose are the same for males and females. Genital mutation is intended to dull sexual pleasure.

  "Wow what a beautiful baby boy! He's almost perfect. You know what would make him even better? We should cut the skin off the tip of his penis! That'll do it."

  There are still in this day and age JWs who think it is more hygienic to circumcise. To this I always reply, "why? Did god make a mistake when he designed the penis? Did he accidentally put too much skin on?"

  All that being said, FGM is disgraceful. It should be illegal, along with every other practice religious or otherwise, that is harmful to people who observe them and their children.

  Unstop: congratulations! That's a big step. You haven't mentioned wifey as much lately, how has she been doing with all of this? What about her family of superstar JWs? Does your son seem to be grasping anything of the situation or is he insulated from it all? (Sorry I forget how old he is)

  Clearly you decided that freedom is worth the risk. I hope all goes well for you and your family. Now is when the real dark side of cult personalities will shine through. I know you have Jesus and all that stuff, but don't forget we are here to vent to!

  when i discover gaps in science, it's easy for me, as a temporary measure to fill in the gaps with god.

  Kate, you're the only one who keeps talking about IQ. There are many smart people who are uninformed, and therefore believe things that are untrue. It sounds like your head is still filled with creationist garbage. The very statement "god had to do this or that" does nothing but hurt your argument.

  Let me ask you: what if we did insert god into a gap in knowledge that was quite important. Millions of people will build their faith on this, and wave it in the Atheists' face as proof they are right.

  Science is always progressing, always asking the tough questions and following them wherever they lead. Now what happens when the gap that we so readily inserted god into is understood? Not only would we get to pull god back out and replace him with KNOWLEDGE, but the faith of those millions will no longer have any basis.

  Yet another reason why the non-theist view is the only one that really makes sense.

  If we just accepted Newton's work as finished and left 'god' insserted into the blanks in his work, we wouldn't have come very far since his time, would we? We can't fill gaps with 'gawd dun it' and call it good. We even can't put god in there at all! If he was needed, it would be obvious. The universe from the Big Bang til now has needed zero interference.

  The reason someone brought the FSM is to prove this very point. Try inserting the FSM where you would put god into an area that lacks understanding. Did the FSM direct the formation of the universe with his noodly appendage? Why not? Because there is no reason to believe so, and no way to prove it. Same deal with any creator. God may still be real to you, but there is a reason almost all scientists don't believe in god or any creator. There is simply no need, it gets in the way of science and research.

  It would do you well to read up on logical fallacies... It's tough at first, the WT has indee us to the tricks they use in every issue of the WT and Awake. It won't feel like it, but soon you will automatically be able to spot a fallacy... They jump out of a conversation and poke you in the nose. Just give it some practice! TBH the 'reasoning book' is good for this.

  If all good-hearted people are to be saved, what's the point of the preaching work? How will "the nations be rocked?" Why bother? I guess that's a point that could be poked and prodded a bit if the opportunity presents itself again.

  When my wife said that, I went the "well see? You don't believe everything the JWs believe" route.... Didn't exactly pan out as expected...
